Dscription:
Fiji Live Rock is one of the most popular available varieties. Aquatic Connection handpicks all of Live Rock to assure you receive only premium grade. We sort based on size and overall appearance and coralline algae coverage. It may have been flown in as Premium, but there is always an amount that does not meet our standards. This rock is pulled and sold as foundation rock, and sump rock. The remaining true premium Fiji rock is then placed in our vats of fresh synthetic seawater, re-hydrated, and when the orders come in, we carefully package each piece, and place them in an insulated cooler like container, and then that goes in a final corugated shipping box. Fiji rock contains many interesting shapes depending on where it is collected from on the reef. We see both oblong and boulder like shapes, fused colonies that are the result of ancient coral colonies along with ombination of all the descriptions above. Every piece is unique and a celebration of the oceans ability to create beauty from nature. Coralline algae will be on the rock face of each piece. This coraline algae will become part of the beauty of the aquarium, once introduced into your tank
Description:
Select Premium Branch Live Rock is large branches of mostly Pocillopora, or Porites, or even Acropora, that died, and then were encrusted with coralline algae. They are predominantly reddish and orange, with purple or other color highlights. The live rock "braches", are usually 11/2 - 2" in diameter, and often "Y" shaped. Excellent for building layers and shelves in your reef aquarium. Branch live rock makes for excellent open setups, where waterflow is important. When rocking your reef tank, it is acceptable to combine a few different islands rock. You may also alter the sizes and shape of your live rock with a hammer and chisel. This will not damage the integrity of the rock,or anything living within it. Please be careful to wear eye protection if you are chiseling live rock
Description:
Every year there is more and more demand for aquarium live rock. Finally there is an answer with a zero environmental impact to the worlds reefs! "Real Reef" Live Rock is the industries answer to our hobbies increased demand for aquarium rock. "Real Reef " Live Rock is a made of 100% natural marine friendly ingredients. Its components are made of the same building blocks which wild coral and living reef rock are composed of. The ingredients are not taken from the ocean and as a result there is zero environmental impact to the world's coral reefs or marine habitat. The product is also grown here in the U.S. in closed systems, which also avoids additional environmental impact to the ocean environment via mariculture or ocean farming. "Real Reef" Live Rock does not harbor nuisance or parasitic algaes, inverts and unwanted hitch hikers. Wild live rock inherently is covered and impregnated with undesirable pests and decaying organic matter. In most cases wild live rock is not alive, as it died crossing the Pacific by boat. "Real Reef" offers the aquarist a clean biologically active rock, which mitigates all the issues of wild live rock, including the process of waiting for the death to subside, AKA curing. "Real Reef" Rock is our standard reef building rock. It is very light, porous and full of holes and crevices. It is three dimensional in shape and comes in many natural shades of purple, pink and red. It replicates the look, feel and function of coralline encrusted coral skeleton rock. It’s made from all natural reef eco friendly materials and grown in greenhouses to become a bio-active rock, without the nuisance pests and hitch hikers commonly found on wild rock. This rock is great for Marine Reef and Fish only aquariums. Not suggested for Freshwater, as it holds a high stable pH. "Real Reef" Live Rock is for both the beginner through the expert aquarist. Easily maintained, "Real Reef" Live Rock requires moderate lighting and also a moderate level of water movement. The chemistry required to keep live rock doing well are the same as any other live rock. The addition of calcium, strontium, iodine, and trace elements will help grow and maintain coralline algae growth. "Real Reef" rock is sold in 25 pound boxes. Your "Real Reef" Live Rock will arrive with sizes between 5 and 16 inches. We recommend between 1-1/4 to 1-3/4 pounds per gallon for a beautifully aquascaped aquarium. Real Reef Shelf Rock is "Real Reef's" version of the shelf or slab rock e imported from the Kingdom of Tonga for many years. The Real Reef Team used Tonga Shelf as model to replicate and the results are so similar to the old Tonga Shelf that most think it is the real thing! If you always liked the look of true Tonga Shelf, without the environmental reef impact, than this is the rock for you! Works great for adding shelfs to your existing or planned aquascape. Great for creating shelfs to accommodate frags, clams and other marine life needing a flat surface. Made from the same all natural calcium based ingredients as Real Reef Rock and functions great as a natural filter or growing surface. The whole "Real Reef" Live Rock Story In response to the increasing demand and environmental impact on the Live Rock trade, FHI out of San Diego, Calif. developed "Real Reef" Live Rock. Real Reef is a trademarked patent pending American aquacultured bio-active living reef aquarium rock. Real Reef is a 100% environmentally friendly Live Rock substitute. It is a clean calcium carbonate rock with great buffering ability, shape, color and everything else you like in a great live reef rock. Most Aquarists think it's better than the real thing! It's time as a hobby and industry we start looking into the future and protect this hobby we all love so much. Best of all, there is no curing required, making it easy to use by all aquarists!

Description:
The Marshall Islands first emerged 70 million years ago when volcanic cores erupted at presently extinct hotspots south of the equator. Around 40 million years ago, while the Pacific plate continued to move in a northwesterly direction, the volcanoes began to subside. The islands were initially high, volcanic islands, but over the course of the ensuing 40 million years, they slowly sank back into the ocean from which they came, propelled by their own weight. Microscopic organisms called polyps, which thrive in warm waters with high salinity, salvaged the remaining rim of what was once a volcano. With the aid of botanical seeds transported by birds and ocean currents, small islets capable of sustaining life had taken form 3000 years ago. These islets formed circular rings encircling sheltered lagoons, namely the beautiful atolls seen today in the Marshall Islands. It is in this geographic region, the Marshall Islands, where the finest live rock in the world originates. With its ancient stony coral structure and outstanding color, Marshall rock is preferred by many aquarists. Having more than dense bricks to work with, the shape of the rocks allows the aquarist to aquascape a dramatic display. Marshall rock is less dense than other Pacific rock and makes an outstanding filter. Given the porous nature of Marshall rock, fewer pounds are needed to aquascape any given area. When rocking your reef tank, it is acceptable to combine a few different islands rock. You may also alter the sizes and shape of your live rock with a hammer and chisel. This will not damage the integrity of the rock,or anything living within it. Description:
Live sand, a term used in aquarism, is natural reef coral sand populated with millions of beneficial bacteria and organisms which aid in the dissolving of organic wastes like ammonia, nitrites and nitrates produced by larger organisms in saltwater aquariums. It is sand of particles originating in tropical and sub-tropical marine environments from bioerosion of limestone skeletal material of marine organisms. One example of this process is that of parrot fishes which bite off pieces of coral, digest the living tissue, and excrete theinorganic component as silt and sand. However, the term "coral" in coral sand is used loosely in this sense to mean limestone of recent biological origin; corals are not the dominant contributors of sand particles to most such deposits. Rather, remnant skeletal fragments of foraminifera, calcareous algae, molluscs, and crustaceans can predominate. Because it is composed of limestone, coral sand is acid-soluble. Live Sand is most important for a strong biological system - Live Sand is used to provide a strong biological system to any saltwater aquarium. Full of beneficial bacteria that break down nitrogen-based waste that is produced by marine life. This waste if not elliminated is what would cause severe harmful chemistry spikes in the aquarium water. Live Sand is equally as nescessary to fish only aquarium tanks that incorporate external filtration. Beneficial Sand Dwellers provide a natural food source - There are many beneficial types of worms and crustaceans found in the live sand. These dwellers are used by many fish as a natural food source. The grain size of ranges from fine (sugar size) to a medium grade. Live Sand acts as an immediate PH Buffering System to the saltwater aquarium. The natural components to live sand act as a buffering agent to the saltwater aquarium system. By keeping PH from fluctuating, it provides a natural means of keeping the stress levels of your marine fish to a very low level. What IS the correct amount of Live Sand to add to an aquarium? The recommended amount is 1 to 1-1/2 pounds per gallon, for a sand layer of up to 2 inches. If you wish to have a 4 inch layer, which is widely used, provide 2 to 3 pounds per gallon. What additioinal critters should be purchased to go in Live Sand? We recommend incorporating sand-sifting invertebrates such as sand stars, horse shoe crabs or sea cucumbers and serpant stars and/or brittle stars along with your fish to aquariums that contain live sand. These animals will maintain the proper oxygen content in the top layer of the sand, and stir up detritus so that it can be removed from the aquarium by the mechanical filter. When do I add the Live Sand to my aquarium system? Live Sand needs to be added right from the begining, as it is beneficial in the entire cycling process of the new aquarium
